Angel encounters, gifts and a Father of fun.
Just after I wrote my last blog (Weighed down and Rotten) about letting go of things we don't need and trusting God to give us what we need, this unusual week followed.
Interesting Event 1 - Saturday
Last Saturday, as I was throwing out all the things that were rotting away or too old to use I had a thought that it would be nice to have another pair of jeans to replace those that had been worn through and were now bagged up to go out. However it wasn't necessary, I'd make do with what I had.
Shortly after that thought I cleared out a draw that had some clothes I'd been given for my daughter. And there I found a pair of jeans exactly like the ones I'd just visualised in my head and they fitted! I had a little chuckle to myself as they were perfect, just what I would have liked had I been able to buy a new pair. I knew God had just given me a little gift.
Interesting Event 2 - Wednesday
I've got an old vegetable rack that I'd found left somewhere. It's really grubby and worn. My mother has mentioned a few times getting a decent new one but it's really not high priority, the kids have far more pressing needs and this month I've been really strained financially. But last week I went to the shops specifically to see if there was any replacements and I noted a few for the future when I could afford one.
But on Wednesday I went to throw some rubbish out in my bin down the side alley and as I lifted the lid and looked in the otherwise empty wheely bin, there was a brand new looking, shiny vegetable rack, just sitting in my bin! I took it out, rather confused why someone would have put it there rather than leave it out for someone to take, then took it in. It was, of course, perfect. I was somewhat baffled at this find matching my so recent outing to look for this very item.
Interesting Event 3 - Thursday
My son came from school with a letter of all the clothes he needed to take on his school trip. We didn't have all that was needed but I said he'd have to make do with what we had.
As we got home I opened the door to my house and there sitting outside the internal door to my flat was a bag of clothes and a tennis racket. I love tennis and here was great new looking racket. And the clothes? Well they were boys’ clothes and just my son’s size. I still have no idea who left them there or who let them in through the front door. They got packed in his suitcase straight away for his trip in the morning!
Interesting Event 4 - Saturday
I had to cook some food for the church lunch on Sunday. Up at the till with my shopping I was surprised to find out the aubergines I'd taken added up to £4.75. 'That's rather a lot for aubergines,' I thought. But still, they were for church and I wanted to make something nice so I bought them and some lemons, totaling about five pounds.
As I walked out in the rain with my bags of shopping, head down, two strangers walked past me, both next to me on my left. They were walking in two opposite directions but crossed each other right by my side, strangely close to me.
Just at this point, with all three of us side by side, I saw a hand move and something fall. I looked by my foot and saw it was a five pound note. I grabbed it to give it back but had no idea which of the two to shout after, the disheveled youth with a hoody covering his head and face or the slim young lady rushing off. Both of them were walking rapidly in opposite directions and within a second they were gone.
And there I stood, five pound note in hand, confused and unable to move, looking left and right to where they had been, with a very strange feeling that I've not felt before. I felt I'd just been in the presence of an angel, or two.
That minute each event from the week flashed past my mind. All these events aren’t exactly miracles and I am sure all have good logical explanations. However they all just happened, in perfect timing and sequence, and just following God telling me he provides for us.
I smiled because I felt God smiling at me as I worked out who’d been behind all the week’s fun. God loves to give good gifts to his children, he gives us what we need and sometimes things just to bless us.
And the strangest people at the most unexpected times may just be one of his angels at his service, serving you.
