Consoling Trust in the Face of Fear

As we looked at Psalm 56 today it spoke volumes to me. It was written when David was facing fear under capture from the Philistines. Things didn't look great. He stated his situation to God and all the trouble he was in. Then he says, 'When I am afraid I will trust in you'.

That trust has power to console David in the face of unsettling fear and give him what he needs to press on.

As in this Psalm with the Philistine's attack, the enemy's chief weapon is often words and pride in the position they believe they have . But they don't know how big the God is that stands behind David and the position He holds.

'In God I trust, I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?'

So when things look tough, follow the pattern in this Psalm:

1. State your situation to God.
2. Renew your trust in Him, the Big God that is standing beside you.
3. Ask him to redress the balance in what you face. Know that the enemy uses words to twist and attack, maybe using even your own thoughts to make things look bleak.
4. Renew your trust in God again knowing that trust is in the almighty, most faithful Lord above all.
5. Thank Him and remember the promises you have made to Him.
